My heterosexual life mateLOCATION: Pine Street , LivermoreYEAR: 2003TAGS: livermore, pine street, Acid bathPUBLISHED: March 28, 2008Every town has a place that local bands could play. Ours was Pine Street. It was like Cheers but with metal bands. I liked to describe it as a huge party with your closest friends, in a bar, with the coolest bands around playing. But what made it the best time was if my babygirl was there. She was 6 years younger than me but I never gave it a second thought. She was my other half. We'd talk on the phone at least 3 times a day during the week, then we'd spend the weekends driving to whatever cool shows our friends were playing. We'd pick the shows based on how many of the bands on the bill we knew. The more, the better the party. I loved that we always had a plan. We show up at least 2 hours after the show started, go straight to the bar for a shot of Patron, followed by a Shmirnoff Ice. Then we'd make our rounds greeting our friends. Stop at the stage, watch 2 or 3 songs, then head outside for a smoke. But what I loved, what I always looked forward to, was our timeouts in my car. We both could only take so much social hour so we'd have to get away for just 10 or 15 minutes. We would talk, gossip, laugh or just chill out. Just the two of us. Heterosexual life mates. The CD that was always playing during this tranquil time was a mix CD I made, just for this moment. The song that would end up being repeated was Dead Girl. The acoustic guitar and Dax'svoice would move through us and mellow us out in such a way that we wanted it to last forever. And it did. Thanks to the repeat button. My babygirl moved to LA when I was pregnant with my first son. But still when I'm driving in traffic, stressed out, pissed off, or just bummed out, I put on this song and think of our timeouts and my worries melt away with Dax's sweet voice.
