Struggle of my examsLOCATION: At home , LondonYEAR: 2006TAGS: InspirationPUBLISHED: June 13, 2008I remember sitting at the desk in my bedroom, thinking about how much work I had to put into my final exams that year and being 16 the last thing you want to do is revise! At the time I was having the most trouble with Maths, there wasn't a doubt in my mind that convinced me that I wouldn't fail most of my GCSE exams, especially Maths. I was going through my notes, making flashcards to help me remember things etc. and listening to John Mayer's album "Heavier Things" (which in my opinion, is one of the best albums ever made) "Clarity", the opening track had just hit the 4 minutes and 31 seconds mark, and going into the next track "Bigger Than My Body", which I had never been a fan of, but I decided to give it a full listen, as I felt it may make revision go by faster. I got to a point where I just thought "I don't think I can do this" over and over in my head, I was gonna fail, end up with crappy grades and go on to do God knows what when school was finally over. But as I felt the most defeated Mayer went into the chorus to say "Someday I'll fly/Someday I'll soar/ Someday I'll be something much more/Cause I'm bigger than my body gives me credit for". I don't know how to explain how much I felt these words connected with me at the time, and how perfectly they fit into the situation I was in. But in a way I guess after hearing these words, I realised I could do it, I can be amazing if I want to, and I am a lot bigger then my body gives me credit for. To cut a long story short, I got my GCSE results in August 2006, opened then up in private, and realised not only did I achieve the grade I wanted in Maths, but also had all the necessary grades I needed to get into college. Just with the help of positive thinking, and a John Mayer song ;) Now 2 years later, I've got my final a2 exams. I only need CCC to get into the university I want. I wonder if the song will come in handy this time :D
