It was marred by my newness to the world contending with his experience of it. After he left for the Navy, I moved on. Months later he came back to town and we met up so I could give him a few of his things he left behind. We talked, although awkwardly, with me mostly listening (as I was over the relationship and intended to stay that way). He came across this song while he was away, and after listening to it, realized it said exactly what happened to us. I thought it a beautiful and sad moment. Beautiful because, even though things ended badly, I experienced love, and I can even finally relate to a song. Sad because...if only....
