Zanzibar Can't Be BeatLOCATION: On A CD , GreenvilleYEAR: 2005TAGS: zanzibarPUBLISHED: July 14, 2008I remember hearing the song "Zanzibar" on the album 52nd Street. Hard to believe the album wasn't a BIG hit, because the songs sure were. Anyhow, Zanzibar sounds like it's written about a sports bar. The rhythm is excellent. The lyrics are perfect. The piano playing is inspirational. The only thing I wanted out was the saxophone, jazz swing in the middle of the song. To me, it just felt like it wasn't needed, y'know? It kind of is this "duh duh duh dum" beat song and all of a sudden it drifts into Jazz-Land. I'm not saying I didn't like it, it was awesome, I'm just saying that would have done better in another bit of a song. Aside from that, Zanzibar cannot be beat! I remember the first time I tried to play it on the piano, it was so difficult! It's only the hands of Billy Joel that can play what he wants. No one can compare to him, and he is truly the "Piano Man"!
