Hooked on AC/DC at an early ageLOCATION: Summer day camp , MemphisYEAR: 1980TAGS: first AC/DC memory rockPUBLISHED: October 24, 2008It was 28 years ago, but I still remember the first time I ever heard Back in Black. It was at a summer day camp and this guy who everyone thought was the coolest counselor there brought out a cassette stereo player and told us, "You've gotta hear this! This is the greatest band in the world!" I hadn't heard of AC/DC at the time, being the youngest son of two older parents who were more into Lawrence Welk than Angus Young. But when I heard those first power chords come blasting out of that stereo, I knew this was the music I liked. It had such power, such passion, such fire! Of course, that was song number 1 on the B side of the cassette. We played that album all day long, listening to all of it, even getting standing up on the arts and crafts tables, playing air guitar, but I'll never forget how incredible it was to hear Back in Black for the first time and for that to be my introduction into all things AC/DC, the most kick-ass, rocking band on the planet.
