A night that will haunt me foreverLOCATION: car , Corpus Christi, TXYEAR: 1983TAGS: murder, inocent, haunting, unforgetable, forever, scary, emotional, youngPUBLISHED: May 9, 2008
This song has no relevence to what happened the evening I heard this song, but it will haunt me forever. My sister was invited to her very first slumber party but I had to go with her because she wasn't allowed to go alone. We both got our things together for our first night away from home. Nothing out of the ordinary was going on besides a few sprinkles. My mom got her keys and told us she was ready to take us; she had to get home right afterwards because she had her own friends coming over for a few drinks. Anyways, as we were turning on to our friends street Billy Joel's song, "Uptown girl" came on the radio...it was a pretty neat song and really set the mood for what was about to happen. This wasn't exactly the best neighborhood to drive through at night but we were just going to her house and wouldn't be going on any outside adventures. Agian, as we pulled around the corner (just a few feet away from the house) a few guys ran right in front of my mother, she skid to a stop and we just watched as the boys faught. One of the guys pulled a knife from his pants and stabbed the guy right there in front of us. The all looked at us and ran in to the neighboring alley. It happened so quickly though...we weren't sure if it was really happening. My mom didn't have a phone with her so she drove us (which I thought was crazy but she did) to the house, dropped us off and drove home. From there she called the police. We saw them driving through the neighborhood throughout the night, but continued with our fun. The next morning we heard on the television that a boy was found in a dumpster not far from where we stayed. It was pretty scary to see this as a young child. To this day, even though I understand the lyrics...the song takes me back to that night that I saw a person murdered.
