There's a purposeLOCATION: Home , Fort WorthYEAR: 2007TAGS: Vienna, Billy, School, Your lifePUBLISHED: July 17, 2008So, I was doing some research for a paper I was writing in my senior English class, the paper happened to be on 'Vienna'...Well, I chose to write the paper on this particular song actually. I had to "decode" the lyrics, using rhetorical analysis, and boy was it a treat. In doing research I stumbled across one of his teachings that he does for Master Class, and he was asked about this song. He told the story about visiting his dad after the longest time. He spoke of when he saw a very old woman sweeping the streets, and he talked about how he felt sorry for her. It pained him to see this elderly woman sweeping streets at such an old age, and that's when his dad told him, No. She has a purpose. Here we don't put our old people out to pasture. They have a purpose, they are useful, and she is glad that she can do this, to help clean her city etc. And that's where he got the idea for Vienna...Your whole life waits for you...it's a touching story, really. It just helps me to remember I've got my whole life ahead of me, and even when I'm no longer young, I can still have a purpose. I love how doing research for a school paper can turn into something even greater. Thank you Billy, for your countless life-lessons. "Vienna waits for you..."
