Wake Me UpLOCATION: Bed , Bayside, NYYEAR: 2003TAGS: Evanescence, Bring me To Life, Amy Lee, bed, sleep, awakenPUBLISHED: February 12, 2008Evanescence is, and always will be, my all time favorite band. The first time I ever heard them, I heard this song. It happened while I was sleeping. If I didn’t have a friend over at the time, I’d have never woken up. It was a school day, and I had class at ten-thirty, but my friend started shaking me, yelling, “This is the song I was telling you about!â€Â She turned up the volume on the TV and I awoke to the music video of “Bring Me To Life†blaring on the screen. In the video, Amy Lee is awakened by some ethereal force which jolts her out of a sound sleep. In her nightgown, she climbs onto the ledge of her building and sings a symphony to the open night air. The video is really beautiful, but what really struck me was her voice.  Amy Lee’s voice entered my ears and never left. It was the most beautiful sound I’d ever heard. Her voice, especially in that first single, sounds like violins. I was about to get angry at my friend for waking me up for a song, but I couldn’t speak. I’ve always loved music; I feel like music can speak to us in a way that simple words cannot. Every time I hear this song, and especially if I see the music video, I am whisked back five years to that bright morning when I was awakened to the music I would love forever.
