A song called "I Make Hamburgers", and I can remember eating a hamburger while I listened to it cranked up loud on my stereo. An obvious link, but a good link, I promise. I fell in love with this song the very first time I heard it on the radio. First, I love songs that tell a bit of a story, and this one tells the story, simple as it is, of a guy who works in a hamburger shop, and meets a string of girls who come in as customers. Second, it sounds great, like all Whitlams songs. It's fun, happy, clear and easy to listen to, and impossible not to sing along to. As soon as I could get this song on CD, I did. And one weekend, when I was home alone and a bit hungry, I headed out to the local fast food store (well, one of those big chain ones, but I won't say which) and got myself a burger and fries, along with a strawberry milkshake. It was a big treat to have all that, since I'm usually pretty healthy, but it was a sunny, lonely day, and I really craved it. I brought my food inside the house, and saw the CD cover lying next to the stereo. Of course! As I sat down to eat my burger, I listened to "I Make Hamburgers" on repeat. And now my mouth always starts to water if I hear it ...Â
