It came as a surprise to me that I actually really liked this guy. A couple of casual dates - "just drinks", nothing romantic like a movie or dinner - had apparently nearly blossomed into a real relationship. On a Friday night, I was going out with a friend, arranged before this guy had really been on the scene.

Just before I left for my night out, he sent me a text message, telling me he was thinking of me, and that he was making a CD for me of his favorite songs. He said he'd drop it into my mail box that night.

At first I wasn't sure if this was a good thing. Of course, I was flattered, but the modern-day version of a mix-tape made me cringe a little. He sounded almost desperate, spending Friday night at home thinking about me, while I was going out to have a good time.

I didn't have a great time, as it turned out. When I got home, around midnight, I probably woke up some of my neighbors as I unlocked my mail box to get the CD he'd promised. It wasn't there. I was kind of surprised about how disappointed I was.

We had a plan to see each other the next day, and he brought the CD with him. He didn't explain why he hadn't dropped it round the night before. I didn't ask. But for the next few weeks, whenever I was home alone, I put this CD on. It had fantastic songs that he'd picked just right for me, and one of them was this live version of "Mr Jones". I loved it and put this track on repeat.

By the way, the mix-CD trick worked. I ended up marrying him.
