Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad DayLOCATION: New Creative Child Care Center , Suitland, MDYEAR: 2003TAGS: bad day, alexander, encouragement, sad, inspiring, daycare, autonomousPUBLISHED: February 15, 2008As soon as I heard this song, it reminded me of a story I used to read to the kids at the daycare where I am employed. Around 2003, when I first started working full-time at this center, I used to read "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day." I would read this book whenever there was a consistent occurrence of crying, arguing, or anger. The kids immediately became intrigued because they were surprised at the fact that someone else could feel the same way as them (considering that most children haven't grown out of autonomous thinking). What's peculiar about this particular story is the fact that even at my age, it reminded me that I am not the only one with bad days. What makes me a better person is the fact that I can find someone out there that is having a bad day and give them words of encouragement. The Alexander in the story only needed someone to remind him that tomorrow was going to be a better day. I honestly believe that if they were more people in the world who were empathetic and encouraging, there would be a lot less rage crimes and suicides. Listening to “Bad Day†by Daniel Powter might seem depressing to some, but it motivates me to be a more sensitive person. In essence, when I heard this song for the first time in 2006, I immediately started thinking about "Alexander" and all the children I cheered up that year some of which were having a bad day.
