The Mountain Goats

The Mountain Goats is essentially lo-fi singer-songwriter John Darnielle. Originally recording crude homemade tapes for obscure independent labels in the early 1990s, Mountain Goats records have seen increased fidelity and a maturing of songcraft and instrumentation as the years have progressed and the labels have gotten bigger. Darnielle's literate songwriting--firmly rooted in the storytelling tradition and filled with a robust cast of oddball characters and settings--has remained consistently creative since day one.
