About this Artist

The dB's

Though the dB's were technically part of the second (post-Big Star) wave of power pop, they were the closest among their peers to the source, having actually backed up Big Star frontman Alex Chilton in the '70s before staking their own claim in the early '80s. Led by two equally strong singer/songwriters, Chris Stamey and Peter Holsapple, they brought a quirky, new wave sensibility to their carefully crafted, Beatles-inspired popcraft, tailoring the British sound of the '60s for the skinny-tie crowd in the US. After Stamey left, the band soldiered on for a couple of great albums, but Holsapple eventually became a sessionman (R.E.M., Hootie & the Blowfish) before founding the Continental Drifters with wife Susan Cowsill.
