About this Artist
The CleanA successful pop group, relatively speaking, in their home country and a beloved cult band throughout the rest of the world, particularly in the United States and the U.K., the Clean were one of the first New Zealand-based bands to catch the punk wave in the late 1970s. The band's joyfully simple, keyboard-driven anthems ignited the kiwi-rock scene based around the Flying Nun label that flourished in the subsequent decades. The Clean went on a lengthy hiatus during the '80s, with members (including founding brothers David and Hamish Kilgour) setting off for new locales and becoming involved in various other projects; however as their legend grew overseas, the Clean reunited and began recording and touring again in earnest in the early 1990s, continuing to do so into the 2000s.
