Television Personalities

One of the first bands to apply the DIY spirit and attitude of punk rock to the creation of a more whimsical pop-oriented sound, the Television Personalities perfectly revealed the contradictions and hypocrisy of the punk movement with their bouncy hit "Part-time Punks." For various labels , the band recorded several albums of jangly, shambolic, 1960s-tinged pop that owed more to Syd Barrett and the Beatles than to the Sex Pistols and the Clash before frontman Dan Treacy vanished into drug addiction in the 1990s. A clean Treacy and a new TVPs line-up made a triumphant return in 2006 with the album BUT IS IT ART?
