About this Artist

Hermeto Pascoal

Hermeto Pascoal is a musical wizard who transcends category. His arsenal of musical effects extends from saxophone, flute, keyboard, and guitar to less-explored instruments such as the tea kettle, wooden shoes, or squealing piglet. He first came to attention in the 1960s as a member of the influential Quarteto Novo, and in the early '70s he was a member of Miles Davis' group. With his own group he has forged uncharted musical terrain, mixing traditional Brazilian styles, modern compositional techniques, and jazz improvisation to create a wildly original sound.
