About this Artist
.38 Special (Rock)In the 1970s, brothers Donnie, Ronnie, and Johnny Van Zant of Jacksonville, Florida, oversaw a veritable Southern rock dynasty. Ronnie played in Lynyrd Skynyrd, Johnny ruled the Van Zant Band, and Donnie purveyed tough, low-slung boogie as the vocalist and guitarist in .38 Special. The band's no-frills blues-rock appealed to AOR listeners, and the band had several radio hits in the late '70s and early '80s. Their definitive song from that era is the straight-ahead rockin' bit of love advice, "Hold on Loosely," but the band continued to chart respectably through the late '90s, recording and touring on a semi-regular basis.
